The 2023 ODI World Cup game on Sunday is a huge one for Indian cricket fans. Team India is set to face off against Australia in Chennai at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Both teams are set to renew their rivalry in the grandest stage and meet for the 13th time.
Rohit Sharma’s Indian team has just beaten the Australians with a 2-1 margin during the recent ODI Series. The Australians meanwhile possess a superior head-to-head record against India in the World Cup.
There is bad news for team India ahead of the game on Sunday with opener Shubman Gill down with dengue. It is unclear if the 24-year-old will recover in time for the opening game on Sunday. In case Gill doesn’t get fit in time, Ishan Kishan will be the opener along with Rohit Sharma.

Shubman Gill has been India’s leading run scorer in ODI Cricket this year. The right-handed batter has been tested positive for dengue ahead of the game on Sunday. As per the Indian Cricket Board, the medical team is closely following up with Gill’s situation.
The Punjab-based batter last played for India during the Indore ODI against Australia and scored 104 runs. Gill has scored 1230 runs with five centuries and an equal number of half-centuries this year. The young batter was expected to be a huge player for India in the game against Australia.
Ishan Kishan now is in contention to open the innings along with Rohit Sharma on Sunday. The 25-year-old could also give India the much-needed option behind the stumps. KL Rahul is the designated wicket-keeper but Ishan Kishan could also be a serious contender with the gloves.
Speaking about bowling India could go in with three spinners against Australia with Ashwin, Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav leading the attack. This would mean that Mohammad Shami would have to sit out of the playing XI with Siraj and Bumrah the favorites to take the new ball.
