SA vs IND: A look at India’s record in Johannesburg ahead of second Test
The Virat Kohli-led India got the South Africa tour off with a bang as they defeated the hosts by a whopping margin of 113runs. KL Rahul was the star with the bat and scored a breathtaking hundred to help India post a challenging first innings score. Later, the bowlers, led by Mohammed Shami, wreaked havoc and didn’t allow the Proteas batters to have any sort of momentum in both innings. Only the skipper Dean Elgar was able to resist the Indian bowling for a while and scored a half century in the second inning. However, other batters looked completely clueless against a ruthless bowling unit. It was an as clinical performance as one can expect from the team.
The caravan now moves to Johannesburg where the second Test will be played from January 3. India are eyeing a historic series win in South Africa and a win in Johannesburg will register their name in record books. India’s record in Johannesburg has been nothing short of extraordinary. India have played five games at the venue and are yet to lose a Test. They have won two games and drew the remaining three.
India’s only win on the last tour also came at the same venue where a determined India defeated South Africa by 63 runs. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami took 5 wickets in first and second innings respectively. Given the players’ form and the quality of the hosts’, a historic win is well on the cards. Can the Proteas stop this Indian juggernaut? We’ll wait and see.
