India is getting ready for facing Zimbabwe in three-match ODI series followed by the Asia Cup. However, senior players like Virat Kohli took a rest from this upcoming series. They will be in action in the Asia Cup. Now, former India player, Aakash Chopra shared his opinion on the captaincy capabilities of Virat Kohli during his tenure.

India emerged as a top Test team under the leadership of Virat Kohli. Even, in the other two formats, India had a good winning percentage. But, the only missing thing was any major titles like World Cup during his tenure. Now, Aakash Chopra shared India’s character under Kohli’s captaincy.

“Virat Kohli was aggressive but the team was not so aggressive” – Aakash Chopra

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that Virat Kohli was always aggressive in the field. But the team lacked the same intensity under him. He said: “I want to do this”, was Virat Kohli’s main point of attention. A lot of it has to do with wanting to lead by example. Although the team was not as aggressive under Virat Kohli, he was incredibly aggressive on the field, in your face, and never took a step back.”

Chopra also added that the Team India management misinterpreted Kohli’s intensity. That’s why it cost some matches to India, mainly in the longest format of the game. “That is an intriguing point: he was aggressive on his own, but the team was not. There could be several reasons for this. He mentioned intent several times, but we saw Cheteshwar Pujara get run out twice in one match. As a result, the word ‘intent’ was possibly misunderstood.” Chopra said.

Aakash Chopra also said it was Kohli’s intensity that helped India to use five Test bowlers. “Because Kohli (the team’s captain) used five bowlers throughout a Test match, he altered the rules of cricket in the way his team played. Although the team’s level of aggression is another matter entirely, the philosophy was aggressive there.” Aakash Chopra concluded.
