 ‘Ab bolenge ki match fix tha’ – Fans react as Mumbai Indians defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 14 runs in IPL 2023

After defeating the last fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 23 runs, Sunrisers Hyderabad locked horns against the most successful franchise of the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, in Hyderabad on Tuesday, April 18. The Mumbai side won the match by 20 runs and Cameron Green was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant all-round performance in the match.

If we talk about the encounter, the SRH skipper, Aiden Markram won the toss and elected to ball first. Batting first, the five-times champion scored a total of 192 runs for the loss of five wickets after the completion of the first innings. The highest scorer for MI was star Australian all-rounder, Green who scored an unbeaten knock of 64 runs from 40 balls which included six fours and two sixes. Mumbai’s wicketkeeper, Ishan Kishan scored an important knock of 38 runs off 31 balls with three fours and two sixes. In the end, youngster Tilak Varma who played a quickfire knock 37 runs off just 17 balls with four massive sixes and two fours.

The pick of the bowler for SRH was South African pacer, Marco Jansen who snapped two wickets in his spell of four overs where he conceded 43 runs in his spell. One wicket each was grabbed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan who conceded 31 runs and 50 runs respectively in their spell of four overs.

While chasing a target of 193 runs, the home side was bundled out at 178 runs in the 19.5 overs. The highest scorer of the side was their opener, Mayank Aggarwal who scored 48 runs from 41 balls with four fours and a six. In the end, the Proteas wicketkeeper, Heinrich Klassen who scored quickfire knock of 36 runs from just 16 balls with four fours and two sixes but it was not enough. Markram also scored 22 runs from 17 balls with one four and one six.

“I think first couple of games were a learning curve for me and our team. Bit of a sticky situation (when I walked out to bat). But glad the plans came off. I am a work in progress with my bowling at the death. Obviously, we can continue with the winning momentum,” Green was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation.
