‘Abe ye kya dekh liya meri aakhon ne’ – Fans react as Sunrisers Hyderabad defeat Rajasthan Royals in last ball thriller in IPL 2023 clash

In the 52nd fixture of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajasthan Royals (RR) locked horns against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, in Jaipur on Sunday, May 7. Hyderabad won the match on the last ball of the game and Glenn Phillips was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant performance.

If we talk about the encounter, RR skipper, Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bat first. The hosts while batting first scored runs with the loss of just two wickets after the completion of the first innings. The top scorer of the side was their opener Jos Buttler who scored 95 runs off 59 balls with 10 fours and four sixes in his innings. Samson also played an unbeaten knock of 66 runs from 38 balls which included five sixes and four fours in his innings.

Phillips gave us the injection: Abdul Samad 

For the visitors, one wicket each was snapped by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Marco Jansen who concede 44 runs each in their spell of four overs. SRH, while chasing a mammoth total of 215 runs, the team chased it down on the last delivery of the match. Abhishek Sharma was the highest scorer for the team with 55 runs from 34 balls with five fours and two sixes. In the end, the New Zealand cricketer played a match-winning knock of 25 runs from just seven balls which included three sixes and a four.

“When I went in to bat, it wasn’t an easy situation. Phillips gave us the injection. Was waiting for the ball to hit in the slot. Luckily got no ball as well. Umpire told us only one run would be given. Was waiting for the ball in the right area to hit. Phillips is the game-changer for us. We are still in the game (tournament). Look forward to carrying this momentum in the remaining matches as well,” Samad was quoted as saying after the match.
