The players from the Bangalore franchise celebrated after the 8-wicket win against Mumbai in match no.5 of the Indian T20 League 2023. This was the first time after 2019 that Bangalore played at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium and they made their return to their home ground with a win. All the players celebrated by singing Bangalore’s theme song together. The franchise posted a video on their social media where they shared the fun moments between the players.
Bangalore registered a convincing victory last night to start their campaign in the 2023 Indian T20 League campaign. Skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and asked Mumbai to bat first. Mumbai didn’t have a great start as they lost 4 wickets for 48 runs. After that, Tilak Verma took the charge and prevented Mumbai from getting all out under 20 overs. The 20-year-old batter remained unbeaten by smashing 84 runs off 46 hitting nine fours and four sixes as Mumbai posted a total of 171 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli laid the foundation for Bangalore’s one-sided victory with a solid opening partnership
For Bangalore, Karn Sharma scalped 2 wickets in his four overs by conceding 32 runs. While Mohammed Siraj, Reece Topley, Harshal Patel, Michael Bracewell, and Akash Deep took 1-1 wickets each.
Chasing the winning total, Du Plesiss and Virat Kohli gave a firing start to Bangalore by putting up 148 runs together for the first wicket in 14.5 overs. Du Plessis got out after smashing 73 runs off 43 balls, hitting five fours and six sixes, while Kohli remained unbeaten on 82 runs from 49 balls, including six fours and five sixes. Glenn Maxwell also played his hand by smashing two sixes off the three balls he faced.
Kohli finished the match with a six off Arshad Khan’s delivery in the 17th over to chase the winning total by losing 2 wickets with 22 balls to spare. Arshad Khan and Cameron Green were the only wicket-takers for Mumbai. Faf du Plessis was awarded Player of the match for his splendid knock.
