India will be aiming to complete a 2-0 series sweep when they take on West Indies in the second and final Test in Port of Spain. With that target, the Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal looked brilliant with the bat in the first session.

But the story was quite different, in the second Test India’s opening stand was broken on 139 and after that, India lost two more wickets for just over 20 runs. Virat Kohli shines on Day 1 of the second Test

Following a spectacular victory in the first Test, India will try to whitewash the West Indies in the series’ second and final match, which begins on Thursday. West Indies struggled on the tough batting surface in the opening match, looking unprepared for the experienced Ravichandran Ashwin Test. Ashwin took 12 wickets in the match to demolish the Windies’ batting order.

In the first innings, Jaiswal and Rohit led India to a commanding lead. After lunch, though, the West Indies retaliated with venom. The home team captured four wickets to stop the run flow. Rohit Sharma in his 100th Test match performed brilliantly with the bat, missing out on a well-deserved century by 20 runs. Virat Kohli who was having his 500th international appearance came out to bat and is unbeaten at 87 off 161 balls. Ajinkya Rahane again fell cheaply by scoring just 8 runs just before the Tea. West Indies dominated the second session by sending four Indian batters to the pavilion. Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, though, pulled India back in charge, ensuring that India do not lose a wicket in the third session and setting up the team’s second 100-plus stand of the innings.

India are in a commendable position at the end of Day 1 with Kohli and Jadeja still there at the crease with the former India skipper eyeing for his 76th century.
