It seems that India head coach Rahul Dravid won’t be getting any respite after his decision of taking a break. Ahead of India’s ongoing tour of New Zealand, the former India skipper decided to rest. He was replaced by VVS Laxman who is currently coaching the Men In Blue. Dravid is set to return ahead of India’s tour of Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, after his predecessor Ravi Shastri criticized him for taking this break, Ajay Jadeja joined the bandwagon. Days after Shastri’s criticism, Jadeja echoed the 1983 World Cup winner’s views on coaches taking breaks. Jadeja said coaches don’t need a break as Dravid already gets it during two months of the Indian T20 League every year. He was asked about Dravid’s break Prime Video.

“Coaches don’t need a break,” said the former India batter.

In reply, presenter Gaurav Kapur reacted saying, “No? I’m just asking.”

“You get a break for two or two-and-a-half months in the ITL. I mean they are my friends. Vikram Rathour and I go back a long way. Dravid has been a great cricketer for India. I mean, no disrespect for them. But this is a job you do for a couple of years and you give in everything like the players. So not for rest but if it is anything else then…,” Jadeja explained.

The same set of players will play in Bangladesh: Ajay Jadeja

Furthermore, Kapur opined that a person can’t be at two places at the same time, referring to Dravid’s workload. To which, Jadeja replied by saying that some of the players from the New Zealand series will travel to Bangladesh as well. In simple, he meant that with only a four-day gap between New Zealand and Bangladesh series, the players will feel the heat of the workload. Apparently, the New Zealand series will end on November 30 and Bangladesh series will start on December 3.

“It’s also simple thing of not being at two places at the same time. You can’t be unless you are Superman,” said Kapur.

Jadeja replied: “There are gonna be players who are going form here to Bangladesh and there are 4 days gap.”

Kapur said: “There you go, I can’t convince Ajay. He’s got a valid counterpoint.”
