Argentina goalie Emiliano Martinez has auctioned off his Golden Gloves award to raise money for a cancer hospital. He won the award after his side won the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. Martinez was the bet goalie, saving a lot of goals during big games. Not to forget, his team was playing in the must-win mode after suffering an upset against world number 50, Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, a few months after this, the star goalie decided to auction off the award to raise money for the hospital. Apparently, the hospital will be built for the children who suffer from cancer at such a tender age. A total of $45,000 has been raised for the cause. “$45,000 for the Dibu gloves to help the Garrahan boys!” the Argentine Pediatric Foundation said on Instagram, referring to the oncology ward of the Garrahan Hospital, the main pediatric hospital in Argentina.

During the event, Emi said that he didn’t hesitate when he was asked to donate the gloves.

“When they gave me the option to donate the World Cup gloves, I didn’t hesitate, it’s a good cause for the boys,” said the goalkeeper during the event.

“The World Cup finals are not played every day, (the gloves) are special. But it helps a child much more than me having them hanging in a frame in my house,” he said.
