In the ongoing Galle Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, the hosts tightened their grip on the game. After scoring 312/10 in the first innings Sri Lanka restricted Pakistan to 132/5 before rain interrupted the game. Senior pacer Prabhat Jayasuriya has been phenomenal for the hosts as he clinched three wickets.

Jayasuriya’s early breakthroughs helped hosts to tighten their grip on the game and nab visitors. However, it’s worth noting that Pakistan’s top four including skipper Babar Azam failed to score runs in the first innings. Kasun Rajitha opened the floodgates for Pakistan as he dismissed opener Imam-Ul-Haq for 1 run. After his departure, Abdullah Shafique and Shan Masood added 44 runs for the second wicket before Jayasuriya broke the partnership.

Shafique scored 19 runs off 28 balls with the help of three fours. Masood was dismissed by Ramesh Mendis for 39 runs off 30 balls with the help of five fours and a six. Meanwhile, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam also failed to score runs. Azam was dismissed by Jayasuriya for 13 runs off 16 balls with the help of two boundaries.

Dhananjaya de Silva helped Sri Lanka to post a competitive total

In the first innings, Sri Lanka batter Dhananjaya de Silva scored a magnificent century to help his team to score a competitive total.Β  Dhananjaya de Silva in his innings scored 122 runs off 214 balls with the help of twelve fours and three sixes. He was well supported by Angelo Mathews who scored a magnificent half-century. Mathews in his innings scored 64 runs off 109 balls with the help of nine fours.

For Pakistan pacers Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Abrar Ahmed clinched three wickets each. While Agha Salman clinched a wicket too. Notably, this is a two-match Test series which will mark its impact in the World Test Championship cycle for both Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The second Test of the series will be played in Colombo from July 24.
