In the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka, Virat Kohli notched up his 45th century. With this, he is now just five tons away from 50 centuries which will be a record. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar has 49 to his name and is currently the number of centuries to his name. Meanwhile, a day ahead of the game, India off-spinner Ravichandran made a bold prediction.

He took to Twitter and wrote “Let’s take a guess, how many of you think that we are going to score 400+ with a 73rd for @imVkohli? #INDvSL.” As it turned out, his prediction partially came true as Kohli scored a hundred. Notably, the prediction might have gone wrong if Sri Lanka had held their chances. Meanwhile, as Ashwin’s prediction came true, the fans have been losing their minds.

The break before the series help me: Virat Kohli

“I have had a bit of a break, couple of practice sessions,” Virat Kohli said in the mid-innings break. “I have come fresh after the Bangladesh tour where things didn’t quite go to plan for me in the second half. I was quite looking forward to the home season. I had to bat through the innings as I always do but still manage a high strike-rate. I am glad could play at the tempo of the game.

“I don’t think there was anything different. My preparation and intent always stay the same and I just kept backing my intent. As I said during the mid-innings break, it was very close to the template I play with. I also understood we needed an extra 25-30 runs. The only thing I learnt was desperation doesn’t get you anywhere. You have to play for the right reasons and almost play every game like your last and just be happy about it. The game is going to move on and I’m happy with my space,” the 2008 U19 World Cup winning skipper said during post-match presentation.
