In the ongoing first ODI between India and Sri Lanka, the India openers, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma rode their luck. First up was the latter who survived an lbw decision early in the ongoing first innings. In the 11th over, the India skipper ran down the track but missed the ball from Wanindu Hasaranga. The white Kookaburra hit the back leg.

The Lankan players appealed and the umpire gave it not out. Skipper Dasun Shanaka opted for a review, only to find out that it was an umpire’s call on stumps. Everything apart from that was in line. Six overs later, Gill barely survived an lbw against left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage. In replays, it looked like the not-out decision from the umpire would be overruled.

However, the ball tracking showed that the impact was the umpire’s call. All of this was watched by former India skipper Virat Kohli from the Indian dugout. He couldn’t believe what he saw and his reaction was priceless.

Shubman Gill was trapped lbw by Dasun Shanaka

Meanwhile, the right-hander has finally trapped lbw by the Sri Lanka skipper Shanaka in the 19th over of the innings. Before this, the 2018 U19 World Cup winner scored 70 runs off just 60 balls. His inning included 11 fours. The Punjab player missed out on his second ODI hundred. Talking about the game, India skipper Rohit Sharma played the ball on the stumps after scoring 83.

Sharma was cleaned up by Dilshan Madushanka. At the time of writing, Shreyas Iyer also lost his wicket to Dhanajaya de Silva after scoring 24-ball 28. Now, KL Rahul and Kohli are batting at the crease with the latter getting to 31 and counting. On the other hand, Rahul needs to score runs as he has been facing criticism across formats due to non-performance.
