Asian Games 2023: Nepal smash records in thumping win over Mongolia
Nepal, on Wednesday, created history during the 2023 Asian Games in Cricket. The Nepalese team beat Mongolia by a record 273-run margin to win the first game of the men’s competition. This is the biggest margin to win a game for any team in terms of runs.
The Nepal Cricket team had just played in the 2023 Asia Cup and faired well against India. Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh stole the headlines as they created batting records galore. The next game for Nepal in the 2023 Asian Games will be against Maldives on 1st October. If they win the game, their next opponent could be India in the quarter-finals. Some of the well-known players from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are part of the event.
Nepal thrash Mongolia by 273 runs –
Mongolia won the toss and chose to bowl first and that was the only thing that went their way. Nepal openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Shaikh scored 19 and 16 before falling in the 8th over. Nepal, at that stage, was scoring at 9 runs per over.
It was then the time for the Kushal Malla show. The batter, along with skipper Rohit Paudel, added 193 runs for the 3rd wicket. Kushal Malla broke the 6-year record for the fastest T20 century. The 19-year-old scored his ton in just 34 balls to create a new world record.
This was the fastest ton in T20 cricket with Kushal Malla going past two T20 greats. The previous record for the fastest 100 was held by Rohit Sharma and David Miller. The two had scored centuries in just 35 deliveries. Kushal Malla was not out on 137 which came off 50 balls with 8 fours and 12 sixes.
There was more action to follow as Dipendra Singh then took over. The 23-year-old scored the fastest 50 in T20 Cricket. Singh got to the mark in just 9 balls going past Yuvraj Singh’s record. The Indian had scored his half-century in 12 balls against England in 2007.
Nepal also became the first team to score 300 runs in T20 cricket. Nepal’s 314/3 is the highest score in T20 Cricket. Nepal bettered the 278/3 scored by Afghanistan in 2019. Nepal wasn’t finished though there was more carnage with the ball.
Chasing 315 to win, Mongolia were all out for just 41 to lose by 273 runs. This is the biggest margin of win in terms of runs. Only one Mongolian batter reached double figures as there were batters who scored ducks in the monumental defeat.
