‘Aur issi Bazball se hamari team 5th Test series decider haar gayi’ – Fans react as Australia beat England in Lord’s Ashes Test
As Mitchell Starc bowled Josh Tongue, Australia celebrated their second win of the series. At the home of cricket, Australia came on top, for the second time in the series. A collective team effort helped the visiting side beat the home side in one of the closer games of Test cricket. Opting to bowl first, England conceded 416 in the first innings, thanks to a fantastic ton from Steve Smith and fifty from David Warner and Travis Head.
England were 188/1 at one stage of their first innings. The top 3 batters of England had dominated the Australian attack till that point in time. That’s when the Australian bowlers came up with the short ball ploy. The pace attack was majorly successful in restricting England to a not-so-great total in the first innings, thanks to the strategy of using short balls. From 188/1 at one stage, England were dismissed for 325 in their first innings. The home side saw an incredible collapse losing their last 9 wickets for just 137 runs and handing over the lead to the Australian team.
Australia push towards a series victory
A lead of 91 runs was crucial on a wicket like Lord’s. Australia started their second innings with a good opening partnership. Though Warner and Labuschagne couldn’t play longer innings, Australia were in a commanding position in the Test. Khawaja batted well and steadied the ship. Despite wickets falling at the other end, Khawaja stood well. England with their lack of pace still managed to dismiss the last eight batters of Australia for just 92 runs. From 187/2 at one stage, Australia crumbled to 279 in their second innings.
370 was the target for England. The Australian pace duo of Michell Starc and Pat Cummins ran through the English batting lineup. Starc with his deadly inswinger dismissed Ollie Pope and Zak Crawley. Cummins bowled two peaches to dismiss Joe Root and Harry Brook. The Ben duo of England tried their best to win the game for England but in vain. Australia won the Test by 43 runs and extended their lead in the series to 2-0.

England is the fine example of overconfidence. They were confident that they will not lose matches in their home ground but australia were carrying UNO reverse card.
