Australia’s assistant coach compares this player to Sachin Tendulkar

Australia is currently busy in Sri Lanka, playing an ODI series and they have defeated the host nation in the first match at Pallekele on Tuesday. Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell both played brilliantly during the chase of 282 runs in 44 overs.

However, speaking in an exclusive chat in Gulf news, the Australian assistant coach heaped high praises on Steve Smith for his work ethic towards the game. He even compared him with the Indian great, Sachin Tendulkar.

Steve Smith has an amazing self-belief – Sridharan Sriram

Sriram said that this Australian batter has an amazing self-belief as he considers winning any game at any condition against any team. He also changes his game always to be a step ahead of his opponents. He said: “I have not seen that kind of self-belief in a person, in the way he talks and in the way he takes on any attack and in any conditions. It’s unbelievable. Having seen both Smith and Virat Kohli, their work ethic is amazing, it is unparalleled.”

Sriram also said that how Smith constantly makes changes in his game to keep himself ahead against opponents. He added: “He knows his game inside out. He’s a genius. He can change his grip in the middle of an innings, he can change his stance, he can change the shuffle, and he can be more side-on and suddenly be more open. He is someone who can change his game on the go. That is a genius because not many people could do it. People require so much practice to change one aspect of the game,”

The Australian assistant coach opened up on his trigger movement incident. “He tells us the story that his shuffle started when England pacers started bowling bouncers at him. He struggled initially, and then all of a sudden he started to shuffle and got a couple of hook shots which helped him get his first Test hundred. And then onwards, the shuffle stayed. So the shuffle happened in the middle of an innings.” he concluded.

Steve Smith will be in action again when Australia will face the Lankans in the second ODI match on Thursday at Pallekele.
