‘Baap ko khelna nahi sikhate betayyyy’ – Fans react as India thrash Pakistan 4-0 in Asian Champions Trophy 2023
India locked horns with Pakistan in the last group-stage match of the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 on Wednesday, August 9 in Chennai where they defeated them. India finished at the top of the table with four wins and one ended in a draw out of the five matches they played. The Indian Hockey team is been led by drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh in this tournament.
India defeated Pakistan 4-0 to end their group-stage fixtures. Two goals were scored by Harmanpreet Singh in the 15th and 23rd minutes of the game, the third goal was scored by Jugraj Singh in the 36th minute and Akashdeep Singh scored the last goal of the match in the 55th minute. Harmanpreets two goals helped him become the highest scorer in the tournament so far with seven goals.
India missed a lot of chances in the match
Pakistan tried their best to score goals but they failed to convert their chances. Pakistan goalkeeper Akmal Hussain saved a lot of shots in the first quarter but in the second quarter, he started conceding goals. He saved a lot of shots from Sukhjeet Singh, Karthi Selvam, Akashdeep, and by other forwards. India got the breakthrough when they got a penalty corner and the Men in Blue skipper converted it.
India forward Lalit Upadhyay asserted after the match: “Today’s the night. It is India vs Pakistan.” “It was a good show from the boys. Field goals are not a worry for us. We need to score more goals but the results are coming through PCs and it takes the efforts of the strikers to earn those penalty corners,” India goalkeeper PR Sreejesh was quoted as saying after the match.
A few wonderful balls from deep in the defence might have also resulted in goals, but India displayed some ineffective chances in the last period by wasting numerous good opportunities. The Pakistani team’s body language appeared dejected and demoralised as they were not able to score even a single goal in the match against the arch-rivals.
