‘Badi jaldi realize ho gaya bhai tereko’ – Fans react as Avesh Khan shares regret over helmet-throwing celebration against RCB in IPL 2023

After Lucknow Super Giants upset Royal Challengers Bangalore in a tight Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Bengaluru, Avesh Khan threw his helmet, an act he still regrets. He recalls how severely he was trolled thereafter and how texts just kept coming in. “Yeh social media mein mera mahool bana rehta hai and helmet incident thoda jyada hogaya tha. I realized later that I shouldn’t have done this. It just happened in the heat of the moment. I now feel sad that yaar yeh sab cheez nahi karna tha,” Avesh was quoted as saying in The Indian Express.

Team India is gearing up for the West Indies tour, and the 26-year-old will be hoping that this time around he can get a comeback call-up for the upcoming tour. He last played for India in October 2022 against South Africa in a home series. In the 2021-22 season, he was considered as number-one seamer for the national side in the shortest format of the game but later the selectors moved on. He was not considered for the 20-20 World Cup squad in Australia. In that year, he snapped 38 wickets in eight games for Madha Pradesh (MP) in domestic cricket.

It’s hard to say I won’t bowl much or will bowl only certain number of overs: Avesh Khan

The speedster opined that he did have a good IPL 2023. “If you compare my past two IPL seasons before this one, it went the way I wanted too. However, even though the season didn’t go well as per my standard, I maintained my economy rate which is less than 10. I bowl crucial overs 4 or 5th over and later in death,” Avesh stated while explaining how this season has witnessed more 200 runs games and all bowlers have a higher economy rate.

It is very hard on the mind to play for the Indian squad one day and then be expected to play domestic cricket. According to Avesh, he bowled more than 240 overs for MP last season. There were times when his body suffered for a rest, but he persisted since every game was crucial for his team.

“A fast bowler always tries to be at his peak and it’s not easy. Lot goes behind the scenes, be it following a diet, following proper schedule, taking 8-9 hours sleep. You need proper training and proper recovery too. It looks simple but it’s very tough. When playing domestic cricket, it’s hard to say I won’t bowl much or will bowl only certain number of overs. I bowled 30-35 overs on an average during Ranji Trophy games. There is travel and a one-day break before you recover for the next game,” the right-arm pacer concluded.
