Kolkata Knight Riders star batter, Rinku Singh is likely to make his debut in the shortest format of the game when India lock horns with West Indies in the five-match T20I series. The series is set to be played from August 3, after the completion of Test and ODI series. The squads of both the Test and ODI series has been released by the selectors on Friday, June 23 but the squad for the T20I series is yet to be released.

Star India all-rounder, Hardik Pandya is likely to lead t the T20I squad if Rohit Sharma is given a rest by the selectors. According to reports by TOI newspaper, Rinku is set to receive a maiden call-up for the T20I series against the Carribeans. He has performed exceptionally well in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In IPL 2023, he scored 474 runs for KKR in 14 matches at an average of 59.25 at a strike rate of 149.52.

Cheteshwar Pujar dropped from Test squad

The report also stated that Umesh Yadav is not dropped from the team, he is injured. “Umesh is suffering from a hamstring injury and is recovering at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore,” an Indian Cricket Board official was quoted as saying in TOI newspaper.

The source further opined that Cheteshwar Pujara is been dropped from the Test squad because of a lack of form and inconsistency in the last few matches. “If Ajinkya Rahane can be made vice-captain of the Test side after being out for 15 months before the WTC Final, anyone can make a comeback. The doors aren’t closed on any senior player,” the report added.
