Former Australia seamer, Glenn McGrath opines that Jasprit Bumrah should think about dropping one of the formats to prolong his career. The star India bowler last played for his national side in the home series against Australia in September 2022. He got injured during the tour of England and was ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 as well as from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

Bumrah has got the surgery and he is fully fit for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka and Pakistan and ODI World Cup 2023 in India. He will be seen leading the Men in Blue in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland.

India is the toughest place to be in as a fast bowler: Glenn McGrath

“Bumrah is exceptional, and he is unique. The way he bowls, his run-up, and his delivery stride are very unique. But his bowling action and the way he goes about it does put a lot of stress on his body, so he needs to stay strong. If he does that, he can play for quite a few years for India. The current international schedule, the IPL, and other T20 tournaments make it harder for fast bowlers like Bumrah to play in all three formats but some bowlers can do it,” McGrath was quoted as saying on Sportstar.

The venues of the subcontinent are not suitable for the pacers. Only reverse swing is the option for the seamers on these pitches. Lack of pace and bouncy pitch and extreme heat makes it difficult for the fast bowlers to make an impact with their bowling. “India is the toughest place to be in as a fast bowler. But if you succeed here, you can be successful anywhere. “What makes India as we know are the conditions. They know how to bat and bowl well in these conditions. So if you prepare a bouncy track that is not India,” he explained.
