BCCI announces India’s squads for South Africa T20s and fifth Test vs England

The Indian squad for the upcoming 3-match T20I series and the lone Test match to be played in the England tour has been announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The squads were announced today (22nd May 2022) evening and by the looks of it, the selectors have rested most of the multiformat cricketers after the grueling Indian T20 season for the series against South Africa.
The squad that will be taking the field against South Africa at home will be led by KL Rahul. There are quite a few veteran players making a comeback to the team. The likes of Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav are making a comeback to the team. While some new faces like Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh Ravi Bishnoi, and Avesh Khan are getting a break on the back of their performances in the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League 2022. Selectors have also looked to back players like Venkatesh Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad who despite their reputation have not had a great ITL season.

Speaking of the Test squad, it is a full-strength squad with Rohit Sharma leading the team. Notably, Cheteswar Pujara has been brought back into the team after his brilliant exploits with the bat in the County season. Other noticeable inclusions are that of Shubman Gill and Prasidh Krishna. Also, on the back of his brilliant performance with the new ball in the Indian T20 League 2022, Umesh Yadav has found his way back into the team.
