The Indian T20 League 2022 is just one match away from getting its champion. An intense and longer version of the tournament has taken its toll on the Indian players. The Board of Control for Cricket in India is thus trying to ensure that ta fit team devoid of any niggles takes the field against the Proteas on home soil.

Notably, immediately after the Indian T20 League 2022 ends, the Indian team will be in action against the South African team in a five-match T20I series at home. The BCCI has asked the members of the squad including the skipper, KL Rahul to attend a two-day fitness camo at the NCA in Bengaluru starting from June 5. As per reports from InsideSport.IN, the fitness camp will be supervised by VVS Laxman and the National team physio Nitin Patel.

Quoting a senior BCCI official from InsideSport- “All players for South Africa series will have to assemble for a fitness camp at NCA. It’s important as many of them are carrying niggles. Harshal still has stitches and we want to make sure everything is fine.”

The 18-member squad will therefore assemble at the NCA in Bengaluru on or by the 5th of June, 2022 after the players complete their Indian T20 League 2022 duties. While the NCA Director, VVS Laxman will be overseeing the proceedings at the camp, reportedly Rahul Dravid will be available as the Head Coach for the series. However, it is not clear if Dravid will be available for the entire series against the Proteas, it is believed that Dravid is in favor of doing so. He has expressed his wish of being available for the South Africa series and then joining the squad in England on June 21.

On the matter, the BCCI official said – “Rahul wants to be available for the South Africa series. The idea was that he would be traveling with the England squad with Laxman taking charge of the South Africa series. But Rahul wants to oversee everything before flying out to England. We still have a few days and the itinerary should be clear in the next few days.”
