BCCI’s stand on four-nation tournament proposed by PCB revealed
The rivalry between India and Pakistan in the cricket world is considered the mother of all rivalries. But for a decade the fans have been denied the opportunity of watching the two teams battle it out on the field in bilateral competition. The two nations meet each other in the cricketing field only in international tournaments and Asia Cups.
The Pakistan Cricket Board’s chairman Ramiz Raja proposed a multi-nation tournament involving India, Pakistan, England and Australia to the international authority of cricket. Raja has been intent on improving the cricketing relations between the two nations. Notably the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) CEO, Tom Harrison has also suggested a similar competition in the meeting of the international authority on cricket that was held in Dubai on 8th April.
As per the latest developments the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has taken a neutral stand on the multi-nation tournament proposed by PCB. As reported by Cricbuzz, BCCI didn’t oppose the idea and took a neutral stance on the matter. Ramiz Raja is very determined to elevate cricketing relations between the two nations while BCCI is going for the wait and watch kind of approach.
However, the financial department of the international cricket authority is not inclined to permit another multi-national tournament. The idea for them is that more such competitions will dilute the value of World Cups and Champions Trophy. Except for 2018 and 2020, there has been an international tournament every year since 2009. This trend is to continue with a T20 World Cup this year in 2022 and a 50 overs World Cup in 2023. So, amidst so many international tournaments already scheduled, it will be interesting to see whether the multi-national tournament proposed by PCB gets a positive nod.
