A month ago, MS Dhoni’s knee injury was disclosed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming as ‘hindering his movement’. After the team’s 3-run defeat against the Rajasthan Royals at Chepauk, the statement was made. Since that time, CSK has participated in nine games of the IPL 2023, and the captain has not missed a single one of them. Despite having a knee issue, Dhoni has kept wicket in every game and even sprinted with full energy between the wickets when batting.

The Chennai Super Kings were defeated by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by six wickets in IPL 2023 match no. 61 on Sunday night. Dhoni and his teammates performed a victory lap at the Chepauk after the game as a way of showing appreciation to the fans for turning out in large numbers to see CSK’s final home game of the year.

You’ve decided that it’s my last season, not me: MS Dhoni

As an icepack was seen attached to Dhoni’s left knee, the online fans became upset. The captain has been seen multiple times limping. The great wicketkeeper-batter, nonetheless, made the decision to walk and thank the stadium’s spectators despite his suffering.

Almost everyone thinks that this is the last season of IPL for the 41-year-old but, so far, he has not confirmed it, officially. After the defeat against the Knight Riders, CSK CEO said that he believes that he will play the next edition of the IPL as well.

Recently, head coach Stephen Fleming said that there is no indication from Dhoni to retire after the tournament. Meanwhile, ahead of the ongoing game between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings, the former India skipper was asked about retiring from the league by Danny Morrison. However, the former decided to stay mum like he has been doing since a long time.

Danny Morrison asked,” How you’re enjoying your last season?” “You’ve decided that it’s my last season, not me,” Dhoni replied with a laugh. After losing to KKR, CSK’s prospects of finishing in the top two have significantly decreased.

With one more game left, they are still in contention for a postseason position. In their last league encounter against Delhi Capitals, Dhoni and company will want to earn 17 points to guarantee a spot in the playoffs.
