After Kane Williamson’s injury during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Gujarat Titans, New Zealand has received another setback ahead of the 2023 edition of the ODI World Cup. Michael Bracewell has been ruled out of the upcoming edition of the ODI World Cup due to a ruptured Achilles, which he got while playing in the T20 Blast in England because of which he will miss the action for at least six to eight months.
Bracewell will undergo surgery in the United Kingdom (UK) on Thursday, June 15 and then he will begin a long rehabilitation which will definitely keep him out of the World Cup this year. New Zealand will suffer a severe setback as their ODI Player of the Year will be absent from the World Cup. “Firstly, you always feel for the player when injury strikes and especially when it means they will have to miss a world event,” New Zealand head coach Gary Stead asserted.

Bracewell played 19 ODIs after making his debut in March of last year. He has since scored 510 runs at a strike rate of 118.6 with two hundred to his credit. The player has already made a number of significant contributions to his team while batting lower in the order and taking 15 wickets. On their recent tour to India, he played one of his most memorable innings, scoring 140 runs off only 78 deliveries while chasing 350 runs in Hyderabad earlier this year.
“Michael’s a great team man and has had a fantastic 15 months for New Zealand since his international debut. We’ve seen his exceptional skills in all three facets of the game and he was shaping up as an important player for us at the world cup in India. Michael’s naturally pretty disappointed, but also pragmatic in acknowledging that injuries are a part of sport and he’s now turning his focus to his rehabilitation,” Stead further added.

Honestly most people lost interest in New Zealand cricket since Kane's injury. Now I don't think they will be able to make it to the semi-finals in Kane's absence. So it means that these are the 4 teams that will qualify for the semis. India, Australia, England, South Africa.
