Jamaica Tallawas (JT) locked horns with Saint Lucia Kings (SLK) in the opener of the 2023 edition of the Caribbean Premier League on Thursday, August 17 at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Isle, in St. Lucia. The Tallawas won the match by 11 runs and their skipper, Bradon King was awarded the Player of the Match award for his match-winning performance. He scored 81 runs off 53 balls with nine fours and three sixes in his innings.

If we talk about the match, the St. Lucia Kings skipper, Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl first. JK while batting first was bundled out for 187 runs after the completion of 20 overs. Except for King, Kirk Mckenzie, Shamarh Brooks, Raymon Reifer, Fabian Allen, and Imad Wasim played some notable knocks for the side.

Mohammad Amir failed to impress everyone in CPL 2023 opener

The pick of the bowler for SLK was their veteran off-spinner, Roston Chase who snapped three wickets in his spell of four overs where he conceded 39 runs in his spell. Two wickets were grabbed by West Indies pacer, Alzari Joseph in his spell of four overs where he conceded 21 runs in his spell. One wicket each was bagged by Matthew Forde and Chris Sole in their respective spells where they conceded 22 runs and 40 runs respectively.

While chasing 188 runs, the St. Lucia side was able to score only 176 runs with the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs. The highest scorer for the side was  Chase who scored 53 runs from 31 balls which included four fours and three sixes in his innings. Johnson Charles, Sean Williams and Roshon Primus scored runs but that was not enough.

For JK, three wickets were snapped by Pakistan‘s Imad Wasim, who bowled four overs and conceded 27 runs in his spell. Two wickets eackets each were grabbed by Salman Irshad and Chris Green in their respective spells of four overs where they conceded 39 runs and 28 runs respectively. Star Pakistan bowler, Mohammad Amir was not that successful as he went wicketless and conceded 47 runs in his spell of four overs.
