‘Age is just a number’ – Fans react to Faf du Plessis’ stunning catch against MI New York in MLC 2023

One of the most stunning events occurred during the 2023 match between the Texas Super Kings and MI New York MLC. The ball headed straight up in the air when Tim David, the standout batter for MI New York, attempted to hit a shot during one of their innings. Faf Du Plessis, who was fielding close by, rushed in and leapt full-stretch to snag the ball. On Monday, July 17, in Dallas’ Grand Prairie Stadium, the widely anticipated battle between the two fearsome IPL rival franchises (the Super Kings and MI) took place.

Notably, in that match, during the two final powerplay overs, the star opener, Devon Conway, consistently threw his hands up to score massively. After the conclusion of the powerplay, his shots helped TSK attain a score of 46/1. Meanwhile, the one wicket that was lost during that powerplay of the game was Faf du Plessis, who was dismissed by South African Kagiso Rabada. Later, Conway eventually had a terrific start and reached 50, while Mitchell Santner’s decisive run led TSK to an overall score of 154/7 after 20 overs while batting first.

TSK delivered a bowling masterclass in death overs

Later, while chasing, MI New York’s pursuit of 155 gets off to a slow start. After the opening batter, Monank Patel was caught for a duck in the second over, Shayan Jahangir and Steven Taylor experienced difficulty keeping strike rates above 100. Taylor’s fight soon came to an end, whereas batters like Rashid Khan, Tim David, and Nicholas Pooran looked to hit big shots, but TSK delivered a bowling masterclass, especially during the final few overs, to defend the target.

Earlier, the Texas Super Kings’ 69-run win over the Los Angeles Knight Riders in the opening match of the tournament was the perfect way to start their campaign. Their second game was against the Washington Freedom, and despite some furious attacking by Dwayne Bravo (76* off 39 balls), they collapsed by six runs but had a great comeback in their third match. Following a win and a defeat in their first two games, both sides came into the match.
