Big Blow for Rohit Sharma after loss against Punjab
Rohit Sharma is having a terrible time in the Indian T20 League 2022. His team has suffered five straight defeats in the tournament and they are yet to register their first points on the table. Rohit himself is also suffering from a lack of form and has scored only 108 runs in the 5 matches of the tournament at an average of just 21.6.
But the woes are seemingly not going to end soon for the Mumbai captain. Rohit Sharma has been fined INR 24 Lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate during their match against Punjab. This was the team’s second offence and if found guilty once more the skipper will be fined a sum of INR 30 Lakhs and banned for one game.
The other members of the Mumbai team have also been fined a sum of INR 6 Lakhs or 25 per cent of their match fee, alongside the skipper. The development was confirmed by a press release by the official site of the Indian T2o League.
“The Mumbai team have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian T20 League 2022 match against Punjab at the MCA Stadium, Pune on April 13’- stated the release.
“This was the team’s second offence of the season under the ITL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences. Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma was fined INR 24 Lakhs and the rest of the members in the playing eleven were fined INR 6 Lakhs or 25 per cent of their match fee, whichever is lower,”-the release further added.
Rohit Sharma becomes the first captain to have committed multiple offences of slow over-rate this season. The Delhi skipper Rishabh Pant and Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson have also been found guilty once.
Meanwhile, Mumbai is having a terrible campaign in the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League. They have played five matches in the tournament and have lost them all. In the tough times, Rohit will be hoping that times change soon and his team regains form and gets going in the tournament.
