BIG BLOW: Star England Batter Ruled Out Of The T20 World Cup 2022 And The English Summer
England is currently busy playing the three-match Test series at home against South Africa. However, the series is tied at 1-1 with one more match to go on 8 September 2022. Before that, they played a three-match ODI and T20I series. But, South Africa won both the series with a scoreline of 2-1.
Meanwhile, on 2 September 2022, the England Cricket Board announced their 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. But, now, England dealt a massive blow as their star batter, Jonny Bairstow gets ruled out of the World Cup due to an injury. The Board confirmed that news in an official statement. Jonny Bairstow will also miss the third Test match for England against South Africa due to a lower limb injury
Speaking about his injury, Bairstow sustained a lower limb injury. This injury occurred in a freak accident whilst he was laying golf on Friday in Leeds. The Board also confirmed that he will see a specialist next week to ascertain the full extent of the injury.
Due to this injury, he will also miss the next and third Test match against the Proteas. Nottinghamshire batter Ben Duckett has been added to the Test squad for the third Test at the Kia Oval. However, his replacement for the upcoming World Cup is yet to be announced by the Board. England will find it tough to replace him as he was in great form across all three formats in recent times. In the recent T20I series against South Africa, he was the second-highest run-scorer. Bairstow scored 147 runs in three matches, with an average of 49.
England’s squad for the T20 World Cup:
Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Chris Woakes, and Mark Wood.
Reserves: Tymal Mills, Liam Dawson, and Richard Gleeson
