India locked horns with West Indies in the fifth and final T20I of the series, which was played at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, in Florida on Sunday, August 13. This was the series decider and India lost the match by eight wickets. Romario Shepherd won the Player of the Match award and Nicholas Pooran was awarded the Player of the Series award. The Men in Blue lost the T20I series with a scoreline of 3-2.

India experimented with a lot of players in this series. Experienced players like Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli rested in this series and youngsters like Tilak Varma, Yahasvi Jaiswal, and Mukesh Kumar were given an opportunity to showcase their skills on the international level. Varma was one of the best performers of the team as he scored a total of 166 runs in the four innings with one fifty in the five-match T20I series.

The Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to start on August 30 in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The tournament is around the corner and it is still not confirmed who will bat at number four for the Men in Blue. Looking at the current form, Varma can be the ideal option for the team to bat at number four. Team India skipper, Rohit Sharma also talked about the youngster’s place in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 as well as in the ODI World Cup 2023.

“Look, No. 4 has been an issue for us for a long time. For a long period of time, Shreyas has actually batted at No. 4. And he has done well – his numbers are really good. There were so many guys who came in and went out. But injuries kept them away or they were not available or someone lost form. Shreyas and KL are coming off not playing anything for four months, big injuries, surgeries rather. Both had surgeries. I know, I had to undergo surgery once and how it feels afterwards, it is quite tough. We have to see how they respond, what they do,” Rohit Sharma was quoted as saying about Tilak Varma.
