The Sri Lankan Cricket team had just taken part in the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament in India. Kusal Mendis and his side finished ninth in the table with just two wins from the tournament.

The next few days are crucial for the Sri Lankan Cricket Board as they now have to get their house in order. There have been a lot of behind-the-scenes issues which have plagued the Sri Lankan cricket fraternity for a while.

Sri Lankan Cricket Membership suspended

Cricket’s Apex Body met on Friday and came up with the decision to suspend the membership of the Sri Lanka Cricket Body. The move comes after the 1996 World Cup winners had just played their final game on Thursday against New Zealand.

As per the reports doing the rounds, the Sri Lankan Board has been suspended due to serious breaches. The Apex Cricket Body decided to suspend the SLC after it found out that the government was interfering with the running of the day-to-day affairs.

According to the guidelines, any member of Cricket’s Apex Body must be run in an autonomous manner. If found in breach of any of the conditions their membership is liable to be suspended.

In further news, the conditions of the suspension haven’t been decided as yet. At the of writing the Apex Cricket Body is yet to decide on what the terms of the suspension is going to entail. This leaves the Sri Lankan cricket team in a huge quagmire with the T20 World Cup months down the line.

The ODI World Cup 2023 has been a forgettable affair for Sri Lanka. At the start of the tournament, they lost the services of Dasun Shanka their regular skipper. After losing their earlier games, the Lankans finally managed to beat the Netherlands and followed it up with one more win.

The lowest point for Sri Lanka came during the game versus India in Mumbai. India batted first and scored 357 runs from their 50 overs. The Sri Lankans were then bowled out for just 55 runs as Mohammed Shami picked 5/18 to inflict a huge 302-run loss on the Lankan side.
