Capcom to continue million dollar grand prize trend with Pro Tour 2024

Capcom Cup X was a huge success in the fighting games community. It was also the first time a fighting game awarded a $1 million grand prize to the winner. It seems that Capcom was also very happy and has decided that the Pro Tour 2024 will also feature a $1 million grand prize.

The announcement came soon after the Capcom Cup X concluded with Capcom President, Haruhiro Tsujimoto announcing the news. The new Capcom Pro Tour season, will kick off in June. An official teaser was also released featuring the upcoming season.

UMA’s win at the Capcom Cup X will likely inspire many more for the upcoming tournament. Although, with the new qualification format, people will have to give their best.

Format likely to remain the same

The previous qualification format was a new take and was very well-received among players. It gave many new players a chance to shine while also making them take the regional matches seriously. Over 40 countries saw LAN events, while many more saw only tournaments.

As per Capcom, creating more accessibility and ease of entry into the game was one of their main goals. These simplified controls and many more training options certainly helped several other new players enter the game.

“We plan to establish esports as a new form of entertainment in society, believing it to have the potential to be the next generation of sports where regardless of age, gender, or physical differences, anyone can compete from anywhere in the world online,” the company said in a statement.

Apart from the announcement, there is currently no official information regarding additional events or whether keeping the grand prize the same will affect the prize pool of other tournaments. Players are also hoping to see a bump in other prizes owing to the success of the game.
