Amid the ongoing ODI World Cup in India, problems are not getting easier for Pakistan. After four back-to-back defeats, the Pakistan Cricket Team is on the verge of elimination. Meanwhile, as the first victim of the team’s poor performance in the ongoing tournament and ongoing allegations of conflict of interest, chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq announces his resignation.

In August, the former Pakistan captain resumed his role as the chief selector ahead of the World Cup. However, Pakistan’s recent performance in the tournament has placed him under scrutiny. In a conversation with Geo News, Inzamam disclosed that he submitted his resignation until the completion of an investigation launched by the PCB.

It’s worth noting that some media houses have accused Inzamam of having a conflict of interest as he is a prominent shareholder of a player management company. The company allegedly manages over half a dozen senior players in Pakistan. The reaction came after the allegations revealed the poor condition of Pakistani cricket.

Conflict of interest allegations raise questions over Inzamam!

It’s worth noting that a five-member committee is investigating the possible angle of conflict of interest in team selection. In a statement, PCB said, The committee investigates allegations with respect to conflicts of interest reported in the media pertaining to the team selection process. The committee will submit its report and any recommendations to PCB Management in an expeditious manner.”

Meanwhile, speaking about his resignation, Inzamam said that people without any research launched allegations against him. “People speak without research. Questions were raised about me, so I decided that it was better I resign,” Inzamam was quoted as saying by Pakistan’s Geo News. “People are making statements without research. I told the PCB to do their research. I have no relation to the player-agent company.” It’s worth noting that Pakistan has lost four games in a row after winning the first two against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka.
