Shakib Al Hasan and his Bangladeshi team hurtled towards their 5th loss of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. The match in Kolkata saw the Netherlands team outplay the Bangladeshis in all aspects of the game.

Both the teams had come into the game on Saturday on the back of huge losses in their previous games. Australia had beaten the Netherlands by 309 runs in New Delhi. The South Africans also had beaten the Bangladeshi team soundly during the game in Mumbai last week.

Scott Edwards decided to bat first to give his under-pressure bowlers some rest. There were two changes for the Dutch as young spin bowler Shiraz Ahmed was given his first game. The 39-year-old Wesley Barresi also played his first game of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. Bangladesh also made two changes from their last game in Mumbai.

Bangladesh fall to spirited Dutch bowling attack –

Chasing 230 runs on the board, the Bangladeshi team was reduced to 70 for 6 in the 18th over. Aryan Dutt struck in the 5th over when he had Litton Das caught by Scott Edwards for 3. This was followed by Tanzid Hasan edging one to Scott Edwards to give Logan Van Beek his first wicket.

It was then the Paul Van Meekeren show when he first got the wicket of Najmul Shanto caught by Van Beek for 9. This was followed by a beauty to get the big wicket of Shakib Al Hasan as skipper Scott Edwards pouched his third catch of the game.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz played well to score 35 runs from just 40 balls with five fours and a six. His innings ended when he edged to Scott Edwards to give Bas De Leede his first wicket. Van Meekren then went through the defences of Rahim,

Bas De Leede then got Mahmudullah for 20 and used his rocket arm to run out Mahedi Hasan for 17. Colin Ackermann then got the wicket of Mustafizur Rahman for 20 to end the 29-run 9th wicket stand.

Earlier Bangladesh bowled out the Netherlands for 229 runs in the 50th over. Scott Edwards top scored with 68 runs while Wesley Baressi scored 41 runs for the Dutch. The Bangladeshi bowlers bowled well but the 230-run score proved to be a lot more than expected in the end.
