‘Chal Jhootha’ – Fans react as spectator pulls out special banner for MS Dhoni during IPL 2023 match
MS Dhoni’s legacy as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings has been nothing less than great in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), with four championships to his credit. The IPL has remained Dhoni’s sole platform for showcasing his accomplishments since he retired from international competition in 2020. Dhoni’s great fanfare has been practically everywhere, from his IPL home ground Chennai to Mumbai.
When a fan was seen watching an IPL game while brandishing a distinctive sign, Dhoni’s crazed fandom was again in the news. “Haven’t watched international cricket since the 2019 World Cup semi-final. No Dhoni, No Cricket,” a fan-made poster read. Dhoni’s final appearance in international cricket came against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup semifinal. Unsurprisingly, an image of the sign quickly became popular online.
MS Dhoni recently became the first player to captain an IPL franchise in 200 game
Returning to on-field activities, MS Dhoni recently made IPL history by becoming the first franchise captain to captain his team in 200 games. The World Cup-winning captain also owns the record for the most IPL appearances, with 241 games under his belt.
The MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings could not begin the IPL 2023 campaign with a victory. Gujarat Titans, the defending champions, outclassed Chennai in the season’s first game. The Chennai-based team, though, won its next two games to secure a significant reversal. Chennai is currently in great form, as seen by their three-match winning streak. The club is in first place in the IPL points standings with five victories from seven games. The four-time IPL champions will play Rajasthan Royals in their next match on Thursday.
It has been predicted that the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will mark MS Dhoni’s final game in his legendary cricketing career. Supporters have ensured he receives a thunderous welcome each time he enters the field. ‘Dhoni Dhoni’ chanting has taken over both the Wankhede and the Chinnaswamy Stadium, completely overshadowing the reality that the games are being played at away sites. If we transfer our attention to Chepauk, the crowd has been as enthusiastic as people can be seen swarming the stadiums even before the season has officially begun to see ‘Thala’ practise.
