Check out who replaces Devon Conway as he gets ruled out of opening Test against Australia
New Zealand will play a two-match Test series against Australia, which is going to start from 29th February, Thursday. The Sky Stadium Wellington is all set to host the first match between New Zealand and Australia. Fans are eagerly waiting for this rivalry, but New Zealand team management has suffered a big blow as their 32-year-old left-handed batter is out of the opening Test match of the series due to injury. The New Zealand men’s selection committee has also announced the replacement of Conway.
It’s a big setback for New Zealand. Devon Conway has been ruled out of the opening Test of the two-match series against arch-rival Australia. Another left-handed middle-order batter Henry Nicholls has been called into the team as a replacement for Devon Conway. Conway is struggling with an injury to his left thumb, due to which he had to withdraw his name from the first match of the series. However, it is not yet clear whether he will be available for selection in the second Test starting on March 8 in Christchurch.
Conway got injured during the T20 series against Australia
Conway was keeping wicket during the second T20 match against Australia of the recently concluded three-match series. The 32-year-old batter suffered an injury on his left thumb while keeping at Eden Park in Auckland. The blistering opener was also out of the last match of the T20 series in Auckland because of this injury. Before the first Test match, New Zealand left-arm pacer Neil Wagner has already announced his retirement yesterday. Coach Gary Stead is not happy with the current situation of the New Zealand team. He is not looking happy with Conway’s injury. He knows Conway’s importance in the batting order. He said, “It was disappointing for Devon to be ruled out on the eve of an important match. He is a quality player for us batting at the top of the order and I know he was looking forward to this series.”
