Chris Gayle to make a comeback in Indian T20 League
Chris Gayle has been one of those names, who popularized T20 cricket across the globe. He has been an important part of the Indian T20 League over the year and has given some memorable performances. Notably, he has represented three franchises in the Indian T20 League- Kolkata, Bangalore and Punjab. His best year in the tournament came while he was part of the Bangalore team.
However, ahead of the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League, Gayle decided not to register himself for the mega auction. While speaking about his decision in an interview with England’s Mirror, Gayle said – “For the last couple of years, the way the ITL went about, I felt like I wasn’t treated properly.”
So, I thought ‘okay, you didn’t get the respect you deserved after you did so much for the sport and ITL.’ So, I said ‘okay, that’s it, I’m not going to bother to enter the draft,’ so I left it as it is. There is always going to be life after cricket so I’m just trying to adapt to normality.”- he added.
In Indian T20 League, Gayle has scored 4,965 runs in 142 matches at a strike rate of 148.96. He also holds the record for the highest individual score in a match (175 not out vs Pune). The fans have been missing the ‘Universal Boss’ in the latest edition of the tournament and the southpaw has also spoken about his return to the tournament.
“Next year I’m coming back, they need me. I’ve represented three teams in ITL, Kolkata, Bangalore and Punjab. Between Bangalore and Punjab, I would love to get a title, with one of the two teams. I had a great stint with Bangalore where I was more successful within the ITL, and Punjab, they’ve been good. I love to explore and I love challenges so let’s see what happens,”- Gayle said.
