 Commonwealth Games, Day 6: Outcomes of India’s Events

Day 6 of the Commonwealth Games 2022 was another impressive day for India. Indian athletes managed to add four bronze medals along with a silver medal to their tally. Hence, now India has grabbed a total number of 18 medals (5 golds, 6 silvers, 7 bronze). Now, speaking of the performances, Lovepreet and Gurdeep Singh added two more medals in weightlifting.

Indian women’s cricket team also qualified for the semifinals after defeating Barbados. Apart from them, Saurav Ghosal and Tejaswin Shankar grabbed a historic bronze medal in Squash and Athletics respectively. On the other hand, Tulika Maan bagged silver in Judo for India. But, some surprising results also came out from some events as Indian fans were expecting a lot from them.

Outcomes of India’s events in the Commonwealth Games 2022, Day 6

Lawn Bowls

In Men’s Singles, Mridul Borgohain defeated Falkland Island’s Chris Locke (21-5). He also defeated Scotland’s Ian Mclean (21-19). India also managed to defeat the Cook Islands (20-10) in Men’s Fours.

On the other hand, India won against Niue (23-6) and drew against South Africa (16-16) in the Women’s Pair. While in Women’s Triple, India outclassed Niue (28-7). In Men’s Fours, India defeated England (15-3).

Boxing

Nitu Ganghas won vs Northern Island’s Nicole Clyde by ABD in Women’s 48 KG Quarter-Finals. In Men’s 57 KG Quarter-Finals, Hussam Uddin Mohammed defeated Namibia’s Tryagain Morning Ndevelo (4-1). Along with them, Nikhat Zareen crushed Helen Jones of Wales (5-0) in the Women’s 48–50 KG Quarter-Finals. 

Meanwhile, Lovlina Borgohain lost to Rosie Eccles of Wales (2-3) in the Women’s 64–70 KG Quarter-Finals. In Men’s 75–80 KG Quarter-Finals,  Ashish Kumar lost to England’s Aaron Bowen (1-4).

Weightlifting

In Men’s 109kg category, Lovepreet Singh won the Bronze medal by lifting 355kg (163 S + 192 C&J). In Men’s 109kg+ category also, Gurdeep Singh won a Bronze medal by lifting 390KG (167S + 223C&J). But, Purnima Pandey finished sixth in the Women’s 87+ KG Final by lifting 228KG (103 S + 125 C&J). 

Judo

Tulika Maan won the Silver medal in the Women’s 78KG Final. Deepak Deswal also won both the matches of Round of 16 and Quarter Finals in the Men’s+100KG category.

Hockey

Indian women’s team defeated Canada (3-2). Indian men’s team also defeated Canada (8-0).

Cricket

Indian women’s defeated Barbados women by 100 runs.

Squash

Sourav Ghosal won a Bronze medal by defeating England’s James Willstrop (3-0) in Men’s Singles Medal Match. In the Mixed Doubles Round of 32, India’s Joshana Chinappa/Harinder defeated Sri Lanka’s Kuruppu Yeheni/Laksiri Ravindu (2-1).

Athletics

For the first time in the High Jump, Tejaswin Shankar won a Bronze medal for India. But, Manpreet Kaur finished 12th in Women’s Shot Put Final.

Para Table Tennis

Bhavina Hashmukhbhai Patel and Sonalben Manubhai Patel won both matches in their respective groups. While Baby Sahana Ravi lost both of her matches in the group. Raj Aravindan Alagar won one and lost one match in his group.

Steven
