‘Complete domination’ – Twitter goes berserk as India thrash Ireland in the the first T20I
A young Team India was scheduled to take on Ireland on 26 June 2022 under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya. It was the first T20I match of the series against the Irish in Dublin. After drawing the previous series against South Africa, India will look to win this series ahead of the mega event later this year.
For this series, young players like Rahul Tripathi, Umran Malik, and Arshdeep Singh were added to the squad as this can be an opportunity for them to perform. Even, on the eve of the match, Indian skipper Hardik Pandya said that they will look to give two-three debut caps in this series.
Now, speaking about the match, Hardik won the toss and elected to bowl first. Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda were in the playing XI while Umran Malik was given the debut cap. But, rain played a spoilsport again as the start of the match got delayed. Finally, after a 91-minute delay, the match started with a revised condition. The match got shortened to 12 overs for each team only.
While batting first, Ireland faced some early setbacks as they lost both openers within 6 runs. They failed to settle the inning as their third wicket fell on 22 runs in four overs. Then, Harry Tector played an unbeaten knock of 64 runs off 33 balls and helped Ireland in posting a total of 108 runs in 12 overs by losing four wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, Avesh Khan, and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up one wicket each.
In reply, India went with a surprising opening pair with Ishan Kishan and Deepak Hooda. Ishan Kishan started the innings with some fantastic shots as he took India to 30 runs in 2.3 overs only. Then, two consecutive wickets fell for India as Craig Young struck with his winging deliveries. Suryakumar did not have a good comeback as he went back for a golden duck. Then, Hardik and Hooda stitched a partnership of 64 runs off 31 balls only before Hardik lost his wicket to Joshua Little. But, Deepak Hooda’s unbeaten knock of 47 runs ensured India’s victory in the first T2OI in just 9.2 overs only.
