‘Congratulations To Srilankans’ – Fans Congratulate Sri Lanka As They Defeat Pakistan In The Final Of Asia Cup 2022
On 11 September 2022, Pakistan locked horns with Sri Lanka in Dubai for the final of the Asia Cup 2022. After losing the first match in the group stage against India, Pakistan defeated Hong Kong to qualify for the ‘Super Four’ stage. Then, they defeated India and Afghanistan to seal their place in the final. However, they lost to Sri Lanka in the last match of the ‘Super Four’ stage.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka got thrashed by Afghanistan in the first match of the group stage. Then, they won straight four matches before coming to this final. Hence, the stage was set for an enthralling battle between these two sides. Babar Azam won the toss and he asked Sri Lanka to bat first. Sri Lanka went with an unchanged playing XI from the last game. Meanwhile, Pakistan brought back Naseem Shah and Shadab Khan in their playing XI for this match.

Speaking of the Sri Lankan innings, they dealt with an early blow. Kusal Mendis got out on a duck, thanks to Naseem Shah. Then, Dhananjaya de Silva scored 28 runs off 21 balls while batting at the number three position. Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 71* runs off 45 balls, at a strike rate of 157.77. Along with him, Hasaranga scored 36 runs off 21 balls, including five fours and one six. These innings helped Sri Lanka to post 170 runs on the board by losing six wickets in 20 overs. For Pakistan, Haris Rauf took three wickets by conceding 29 runs in four overs.
In response, Sri Lankan bowlers also started with good line and length. Pakistan batters were finding it hard to score against them. Only Mohammad Rizwan scored 55 runs off 49 balls, including four boundaries and one six. Babar Azam and other batters failed miserably once again against the Sri Lankan bowlers. After scoring valuable 36 runs, Hasaranga took three wickets for Sri Lanka in his four overs. Meanwhile, young pacer, Pramod Madhusan also took four wickets in his four overs. But, Pakistan got bundled out for 147 runs in 20 overs. Sri Lanka won the match by 23 runs and won the Asia Cup for the sixth time in their history.
