Cyberpunk 2077 developers shares Phantom Liberty’s success

Jumping on the trend, Cyberpunk 2077 developers, CD Projekt Red have also expressed their gratitude to gamers for an amazing reception to the Phantom Liberty expansion released last year in September.

In a post on X, the developers shared that the total number of sales for Phantom Liberty has crossed five million in just four months. An expansion selling this much further solidifies the trust of gamers in the studio.

Patch 2.0 made long-awaited changes

The reason for this success is due to how good the expansion was and how much CDPR have improved even before the expansion was out. Patch 2.0 for Cyberpunk 2077 made some long-awaited changes.

Apart from fixing bugs and glitches, a complete overhaul was done to the skill tree, police system, NPCs, vehicles, net running, cyberware and combat. The best part was that the changes were free for everyone.

The base game has also crossed over 25 million in sales as of now, despite the rough launch. At the time, the company was neck-deep in criticism, especially after they created Witcher 3. It was a No Man’s Sky situation.

Fortunately, CDPR managed to turn things around, not with a hollow apology, but with their dedication towards game development. It is safe to say that Phantom Liberty was one of the better sides of releases for 2023, unlike a few others.

There will be no more DLC or expansions, for Cyberpunk 2077 as the studio has already planned a sequel for Cyberpunk 2077. It is currently under development with other Witcher projects, with the studio promising to do things right this time.

While there will still be some gamers doubtful about their future releases, it did teach everyone a good lesson. Hopefully, the studio also learned a lot and will provide better releases.
