Star Australia batter David Warner is struggling with poor form in international cricket. He is being continuously criticized by fans and former players for his poor shot selection and techniques. He was very poor against India in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Warner was also dropped from playing XI in the first two games of the ongoing ODI series. His continuous poor run has now raised questions about his future in the game.

Speaking on the same, his wife Candice Warner has cleared the bubble over Warner’s cricketing future and said that he still has a ‘burning desire’ to represent Australia. Candice also revealed that Warner does want to represent Australia in the upcoming Ashes.

While speaking with Yahoo Sports, Candice said, “David still has a burning desire to open the batting for Australia. There are still a lot of things that he wants to achieve that he hasn’t achieved. And one of those would be to perform at the best he possibly can in England against the Duke’s ball. Whether the selectors and the coach allow him that, I don’t know. But I do know he still has that desire and that hunger to continue.”

“He’d love to go out on his terms but you’re not always afforded that opportunity and David fully realizes that. He could have easily retired after the Sydney Test this year, but that’s not what he wants. Warner still wanted to contribute to the team in India and still be there at the Ashes and then we’ll just see,” she added.

“He is fully committed to playing for Australia”, Candice Warner

The 36-year-old southpaw has been continuously criticized for his poor form in red-ball cricket. Warner scored just 26 runs in the first two tests against India before getting ruled out due to an elbow injury. It was speculated that Warner will retire from the international games because of a dip in performance. Speaking about Warner’s plans, Candice further said that he is committed to playing for Australia and will continue to play in T20 leagues.

“There are so many (T20 franchises) around the world, whether it be the Indian T20 League, the Dubai League, the BBL, America, South Africa, Pakistan. There’s also his role with Fox Sports which he’s excited about and wants to develop. We’ll just have to wait and see but at this stage, he’s fully committed to playing cricket for Australia,” said Candice.

Notably, David Warner is set to lead Delhi in the upcoming Indian T20 League as their regular captain Rishabh Pant will be missing the tournament. Pant suffered a severe car accident last December and he is yet to recover from it.
