‘Decisions on Rohit and Virat can’t solely…’ – Real reason behind Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s T20 selection as per reports

“You can’t pick one and drop the other”

As the T20 World Cup is approaching, team India is looking to form a strong side. After 14 months of waiting, the selection committee has finally included Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the T20 squad for the upcoming Afghanistan series. The T20 series is all set to start from January 11. The Indian squad was declared on Sunday and it wasn’t a surprise that both Kohli and Sharma were added.

Considering Hardik Pandya and Surya Kumar Yadav’s century, the inclusion of the star batters brought a sense of stability as the entire team is full of young talents. Before the team was to be released, the PTI had already mentioned the selection of Virat and Rohit. However, the wait for the official confirmation was on.

On accounts of anonymity, a former India selector told PTI, “Decisions on Rohit and Virat can’t solely be taken by the selection committee. There is a lot at stake, broadcasters, sponsors and you can’t pick one and drop the other. Ajit and his team needed to maintain a status quo.”

‘It’s a very tough decision to leave out two players who have been incredible’ says Graeme Smith

Former South African captain, Graeme Smith expressed his happiness on the star duo’s return and also mentioned how he he would never want to be a selector.

Smith while discussing on the sidelines of an interaction organised ahead of SA20 said, “I wouldn’t want to be a selector. It’s a very tough decision to leave out two players who have been incredible. Virat always comes back incredibly well.
