The latest update of the MRF Tyres Apex Cricket Council Player Rankings has ushered in the new year with notable shifts, making waves in the cricketing world and which has brought smiles to the faces of Indian cricket fans.

Among the standout performers, Virat Kohli reclaimed his spot in the top ten after showcasing his prowess in India’s recent Test against South Africa. Meanwhile, South Africa’s Dean Elgar has not only climbed the ranks but also played a pivotal role in securing World Test Championship points for his team.

Virat Kohli’s bat spoke volumes in India’s recent Test, where his scores of 38 and 76 had propelled him by four places up the rankings, securing the ninth position. Kohli’s return to the top ten is a testament to his consistent excellence and leadership on the field, further solidifying his role as a key player in the Indian Test squad. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is also among the top 10 test batters.

Elgar finished off in style

On the other side of the cricketing spectrum, Dean Elgar’s masterful innings in the first Test against India have elevated him to the 17th position in the rankings. His remarkable score of 185 not only guided South Africa to an innings victory but also earned crucial World Test Championship points. Elgar’s impending departure from the top-20 batter list is a fitting tribute to his impactful contributions to South Africa.

Bumrah’s magical comeback and Ashwin’s domination

In the bowling department, despite being in and out of the test side,  Ravichandran Ashwin is still sitting at the top of the bowling charts. On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah’s return to Test cricket has not gone unnoticed. Placed fifth in the rankings, Bumrah’s performances have contributed to India’s formidable bowling attack.

Close on his heels is Ravindra Jadeja, holding the fourth position with a rating of 774 and Mohammed Siraj at the sixth spot. Additionally, Marco Jansen’s three-place jump to 22nd in the bowling rankings and a remarkable five-place rise to 8th in the all-rounder rankings showcase his all-around prowess.

The recently concluded Australia/Pakistan series has introduced a new face to the rankings – Aamer Jamal. The young talent has made a strong first-series impression, climbing 17 spots in the bowling rankings to 57th. Jamal’s contributions with both the ball and the bat highlight his potential as a valuable asset to his team, earning him recognition in the cricketing fraternity.
