Delhi player honey trapped during India’s domestic T20 tournament, lakhs extorted
In what comes as shocking news, a cricketer from the Delhi First Class team has been a victim of honey trapping. His name is Vaibhav Kandpal and he was part of the team during the recently concluded, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022. The police report says that the incident happened in Kolkata. Notably, Kandpal traveled with the team to the capital city of West Bengal.
The report further says that he was staying at a hotel near Salt Lake. On the fateful day, the victim was standing at a bus stand when he was asked by the alleged offenders. The police further say that the cash amount of INR 60,000 and other valuable items were snatched from him. Furthermore, the cricketer was convicted by the accused to spend some with a lady. On this pretext, the cricketer was threatened and blackmailed.
“Vaibhav was called to come to a bus stand in Baguiati by three people and was threatened. The accused robbed the Delhi cricketer of Rs. 60,000 and also took away his mobile phone and jewellry,” local police stated.
“The accused deceived the cricketer by saying he could spend time with one of the women following which he was taken to different places in the city. The accused then extorted lakhs of rupees by threatening to make offensive videos of his private moments,” added police.
Delhi made it to the quarterfinal of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
Talking about Delhi, they made it to the quarterfinal of India’s premier T20 domestic tournament. They were placed in the Group B of the Elite Group and came second in the table after the league stage after winning six out of seven games. However, they couldn’t carry their form in the top-eight clash and were knocked out of the title-winning race. They lost to Vidarbha by one run in the second quarterfinal.
