India made a dreadful start to their Asia Cup 2023 campaign against Pakistan. The Indian team decided to bat after winning the toss. The game began with a cloud cover as there were spells of sun-light which offered some hope.

Shaheen Shah Afridi continued his good form with the new ball. The left-arm pacer had got two early wickets in the first over against Nepal. Shaheen Afridi was the player to watch out for with the ball. The Indian team on the other hand was going into the contest with the experienced duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both the batters had shown decent form with the bat in the ODI format this year.

Rain interrupted the game at the end of the 4th over with India at 15 for no loss. The game stalled for a few minutes. Once the game resumed, India lost skipper Rohit Sharma bowled by Afridi. The left arm pacer had the ball swinging into the Indian captain. Rohit Sharma couldn’t get behind the line of the ball in time. The right-handed batter could hear his stumps rattle as he fell for 11.

The focus soon turned to the next hope in the form of Virat Kohli who came to bat at number three. The former Indian skipper began his innings in style as he played a crisp cover drive. Shaheen Afridi had the final laugh when Kohli was out bowled for just four runs. Afridi, tempted Kohli with a wide ball as Kohli took the bait. The former India skipper could just chop the ball back onto his stumps to leave the Pakistani team and its fans delighted.

Shreyas Iyer batting for India after nearly five months seemed intent on giving the innings some impetus. Iyer took 12 runs off Haris Rauf’s first over with two sweetly timed boundaries. Haris Rauf then got the wicket of Iyer for 14 off 7 balls when he mistimed a pull shot. Fakhar Zaman who was fielding at mid-wicket pouched the catch with both hands. This wicket left India at 48 for after 10 overs. When the rain came down for the 2nd time Ishan Kishan was batting on 2 as Gill was not out on 6 off 24 balls with India at 51/3 in the 12th over.
