‘Different Beast” – Fans Shower Love For Rishabh Pant After His Fantastic Century Against England In The Fifth Test

On 1 July 2022, the stage was set for India as they took on England for the fifth and rescheduled Test match at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Before the start of any proceedings, Rohit Sharma got ruled out of the match due to a Covid-19 infection. Hence, the captaincy responsibilities got shifted to Jasprit Bumrah.
On the other side, England was in full confidence as they are coming off whitewashing New Zealand at home in a three-match Test series. Hence, new England captain Ben Stokes and his boys were pumped up to win this match to avoid a series loss against India. India was already leading the series at a margin of 2-1 from last year.
Speaking about the match, England won the toss and elected to bowl first. As Rohit Sharma was not there, India went with a new pair of Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill at the top. But, the plan did not go well and India found a spot of bothering by losing five wickets for 98 runs only. All top-order batters failed cheaply after getting some starts in their innings.
Then, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja stitched a solid partnership of 222 runs as India ended day one with a score of 338 runs by losing seven wickets. Jadeja is still there with 83* runs off 163 balls. But, Rishabh Pant was the star of the day as he scored his fifth Test hundred in just 89 balls. Eventually, it was his fourth overseas hundred out of five. Finally, his innings came to an end when he got out to Joe Root, at a score of 146 runs off 111 balls. His innings shifted the overall momentum towards India as India will look to concrete this stage on the second day of this Test match.
