Dona Ganguly hospitalised after getting infected with chickungunya virus

Sourav Ganguly’s wife and an accomplished dancer Dona Ganguly has been hospitalised due to the chikungunya virus in Kolkata on Tuesday. Sources say that she was suffering from cough and throat pain for the last four days but her illness aggravated even further on Tuesday night which was when she was moved to a nearby private hospital.

Woodlands Hospital MD and CEO Dr Rupali Basu after performing the basic treatments on Dona Ganguly said, “Dona Ganguly has been diagnosed to be suffering from Chikungunya. She remains haemodynamically stable and afebrile, and is on maintenance IV fluids.”

Dona Ganguly is an Indian Odissi dancer who has her own dance troupe called Diksha Manjari. She married the former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly in 1997 and has a daughter with him. Dona started learning dancing at the tender age of 3 years. Under the guidance of Guru Giridhari Nayek she later shifted to Odissi in her teens. She however credits Kelucharan Mohapatra for the most significant development in her career.

After accomplishing many remarkable feats in dancing, Dona Ganguly opened a dance academy in Kolkata. Named the Diksha Manjari the school was inaugurated by the late Lata Mangeshkar. With a capacity of more than 2000, the school also offers classes other than dancing such as drawing, yoga, karate and swimming. In 2012, Dona Ganguly choreographed Rabindranath Tagore’s Shampmochan which she called a sombre dance drama.

Sourav Ganguly himself is highly accomplished as well. Having captained India to one of the most successful sides. The Kolkata batter led the team to the final of the 2003 ODI World Cup. Ganguly rose to the highest of management and became the President of the Indian Cricket Board. Recently Sourav Ganguly gave updates on Jasprit Bumrah’s situation for the upcoming 20-20 World Cup.

As per reports, Dona’s health is now in better condition and she would be allowed to go home in a day.
