Ajinkya Rahane provides important update on injured finger during WTC final 2023
Former India vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane got brutally hit on his right hand’s index finger by the Australian skipper, Pat Cummins in the 22nd over of the Indian innings. It was seen that he was in discomfort. However, the right-hand batter bore the pain and batted really well to take India to a respectable total, in response to Australia’s 496 runs. The 35 -year-old scored a brilliant knock of 89 runs from 129 balls with 11 fours and a six in his innings.
With this innings, he became the first Indian batter to score a fifty in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter was out of the field for most of the time during Australia’s second innings on Friday, June 9. That caused India’s supporters to question their fitness. At the conclusion of Day 3, Rahane disclosed his injury status, explaining that although it is difficult, he can still manage it.
For us, it’s important to be in the moment, play session by session: Ajinkya Rahane
“Painful but quite manageable (blow to his finger). Don’t think it’ll affect batting. Happy with the way I batted. Had a good today. We were looking to get 320-330 but overall we had a good day. Bowling wise we bowled well. Everyone chipped in. That was a really good catch. We all know he’s a really good fielder. Has a big reach,” Rahane was quoted as saying to Apex Cricket Council.
Rahane gave an honest evaluation of the game, claiming that Australia had a little advantage.
“Australia is slightly ahead in the game. For us, it’s important to be in the moment, play session by session. The first hour will be crucial tomorrow. We know funny things can happen. Jadeja bowled really well, footmarks helped him against the left-hander. Still feel wicket will help seam bowlers,” he added.
Currently after the end of play on Day three, Australia have lost four wickets at a score of 123 runs. They, currently, lead by 296 runs in the match. Marnus Labuschange is batting on 41 runs off 118 balls with four boundaries, while on the other side, Cameron Green is batting on seven runs from 27 balls with one four. On Day 4, where on one side, Australia will try to increase their lead over India, on the other hand, India will try to bundled them out as soon as possible so that they not a have a big target to chase.
