‘Dream job’ – Twitter reacts as Fawad Alam does nothing in Rawalpindi Test
The first Test between Pakistan and Australia turned out to be a draw. Despite all the hype, the game turned out to be a snooze-fest, to say the least. Batters from both sides were given an opportunity to bat on an absolute road in Rawalpindi.
As the pitch was flat, the top-order of the hosts took full advantage and put on a lot of runs. During the first innings, the Azam-led side scored 476 runs and lost just four wickets. Imam-ul-Haq and Azhar Ali scored 157 and 185 respectively. Thus, Fawad Alam didn’t get a chance to bat.
He didn’t get an opportunity to bat in the final innings as well. He event didn’t bowl a single over in the match. Thus, the batter wasn’t needed in this match. Due to this, Alam became the first Pakistan player in 28 years (after Asif Mujtaba vs New Zealand) to play an entire Test without batting, bowling or catching over the course of 5 days. His unique record became one of the major talking points and several fans addressed the same.

Many users took to Twitter to joke about how Alam was paid for doing nothing. At the same time, some fans felt sorry for him as well. What followed after that was a flurry of memes.
It is to be noted that the unorthodox batter did get a chance to take a catch, but dropped it at gully. It was Usman Khawaja’s catch and the Aussie batter went on to score 97 in the second innings. Nevertheless, the Cummins-led side were dismissed for 459.
During the third innings, Pakistan scored 252 without losing a wicket. Imam once again scored a hundred. Thus, he went on to win the player of the match award as well. The fans would hope that the second Test between the two sides sees a closer contest between the bat and ball.
