‘Dreaming toh free hee hai’ – Fans react to Mauricio Pochettino’s bold claims for Chelsea’s season
Chelsea FC had a season to forget as they finished in 12th place during the 2022-2023 English Premier League season. They had hired Graham Potter after Thomas Tuchel was sacked at the end of the 2021 season. The Englishman though couldn’t really do the same wonders he did with Brighton FC.
Club legend, Frank Lampard was then bought in as the caretaker boss. The Blues though did not see any change in their fortunes as their season took a plunge. The start of the 32nd season of the English Premier League saw Chelsea go all out for Mauricio Pochettino. The former Tottenham Hotspurs and Paris Saint Germain boss was hired in a bid to deliver success.
Pochettino targets domestic treble with Chelsea
Chelsea FC face AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Cup. Ahead of the game at home, Mauricio Pochettino has sounded the warning bells to rest of the teams. The Chelsea manager said “I want to win the Carabao Cup, win the FA Cup, and win the Premier League”
Chelsea FC hasn’t made the greatest of starts to the 2023-2024 season in the English Premier League. The Blues as they are fondly called, are currently 10th in the league table. Chelsea began the season with 1-1 draw with Liverpool at home, before losing 3-1 to West Ham United away. The third game saw Chelsea win their 1st game of the season as they beat Luton Town by 3-0 margin to claim their first win of the season. A brace from Raheem Sterling and a goal from Nicolas Jackson earned Chelsea all three points.
Chelsea have been pretty busy in the summer transfer window as they have signed two top young holding midfielders. Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia were signed from Brighton and Southampton. Caicedo cost 116 million Euros, while Lavia cost 62.1 Million Euros. The club also improved their attacking department during the transfer window. Chelsea signed striking duo Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson along with Axel Disasi to bolster the defense.
The Blues have also sold Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic. The likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Christian Pulisic, Eduardo Mendy, and Ruben Loftus Cheek have also been shown the door. Chelsea are currently looking for more investments in the transfer window. The Blues have suffered a spate of injuries in recent times. The bad luck with the injuries has seen some of their latest signings also be ruled out for a few weeks and months.
